SCC’s First Source Jobs Program is available to help community members of Greater Boston with any employment-related needs. All current programming is happening virtually.

Services offered include:

  • Applying for unemployment benefits or resolving issues with cases

  • Connecting individuals to employment opportunities or job training programs

  • Building resumes, preparing for interviews, and conducting a job search

  • Finding other income support resources during these crises

Walmart Community Academy offers dedicated learning spaces combined with a broad range of course topics ranging from career and personal development to building home and life skills all while integrating technology into all programs. The course is for everyone who is 16 years and older. Review the courses and note the format of the course (virtual via Zoom or in-person instruction). Check back often as courses and times are updated regularly.

About the facilitator: Marta Mazur Rusak is an instruction librarian at the Boston Public Library, where she teaches technology skills classes - when she isn't reading a book in the courtyard, that is. Before coming to Boston, she worked in corporate law and financial regulation in Dublin, Frankfurt, and Montreal. Marta speaks four languages and has a B.A. ('11) and MLIS ('13) from McGill University.

About the facilitator: Gabe Vorleto is a Ghanaian-American who relocated to the United States in 2011 and is now a citizen of the U.S. He studied political science and history at the Southeastern Louisiana University; he also has an associate degree in Teaching in Basic Education from World Education Service. Gabriel placed a Harvard Law school admission on hold to pursue AmeriCorps VISTA service for a year. As a result, he fell in love with the community-focused work that contributed to the greater good of humanity and has decided to pursue this passion as Tech Goes Home's Assistant Program Manager.

About the facilitator: Victoria Patlajan is the Director of Education at Project Place. She leads a team of instructors and interns with the mission of teaching computer and workforce development skills to individuals experiencing homelessness in the Boston community. Victoria worked for three years as a special education teacher for K-12 students, where she learned how to use remote learning for home-based students and in the classroom. Victoria has her B.A. in English Literature from Clark University and her M.S. in Education Studies from Johns Hopkins University.

She has been with Google for almost 4 years and has held several roles including her over two years supporting small businesses with online marketing and strategy using Google tools. Taylor has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Howard University and is a Michigan native.
